The focus at Apple’s September 12 event will definitely be the iPhone 15. However, with updates in the watch category, we also saw the launch of new AirPods Pro (2nd generation) headphones with USB-C port: Apple Watch Series 9.
iPhone 15 series highlights the importance of USB-C ports and Dynamic Islands. The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max share a sleek titanium body, thin bezels, and a function button that replaces the silencer, along with a slightly higher price.
Apple also announced that the iOS 17.17 software update will be released on September 18 and the macOS Sonoma update will be released on September 26. The old cover is replaced by the new “FineWoven” accessory. An exciting development thanks to the partnership with AAA is the expansion of the satellite SOS capabilities program to solve traffic problems.
We got our hands on the new iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, which Apple introduced at its annual event in Cupertino.
These phones come with some exciting upgrades like improved cameras and the latest A17 Bionic chip. But when you see them for the first time, three advantages immediately catch your eye: They’re made of titanium, there’s a new function button on the left, and there’s now a USB-C port at the bottom. And one more thing, the display unit of this phone quickly collects fingerprints on its side.
iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will be available in black titanium, white titanium, blue titanium and natural titanium coatings. The iPhone 15 Pro price remains unchanged at $999 or $41.62 (US) per month with 128GB, 256GB, 512GB and 1TB storage options. iPhone 15 Pro Max starts at $1,199 or $49.95 per month and is available in 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB storage capacities.
New Features of iPhone 15
iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max come equipped with super-fast 5G,6 and include:
- Support for MagSafe and future Qi2 wireless charging.
- Improved audio quality on phone calls, including those made on FaceTime or third-party apps. Sound quality gets even better when users select Voice Isolation, so conversations come through loud and clear, even if they are somewhere noisy.
- eSIM with support from more than 295 carriers. When traveling the world, users can stay connected through affordable international roaming plans from their existing carrier, or purchase prepaid eSIM plans in over 50 countries and regions, including Australia, Italy, Thailand, and more.
Design and USB-C Advancements
At first glance, the iPhone 15 Pro looks quite similar to its predecessors in the iPhone Pro series. However, when you hold it in your hand, you will immediately notice that it is lighter and has beautiful edges thanks to its titanium frame.
It is better to keep it. Apple says the use of titanium allows the edges of the phone to be thinner and makes the screen appear larger than usual, but maintains the size of 6.1 inches on the Pro and 6.7 inches on the Pro Max.
According to Apple’s statement, there is now a USB-C port at the bottom. They claim that it can operate at 10 Gbps transfer speed when you use the USB 3 cable. This will be useful for tasks like taking 48-megapixel photos in real time with Capture One and recording 4K video directly to external storage.
But from the outside it looks like a normal USB-C port, so we need to do more testing to check its capabilities.
Action Button and A17 Pro Chip
On the side, you’ll be greeted with new function buttons that can be customized using the right menu in the settings. You can customize it for many functions like playing voice memos, accessing the camera or flashlight, adjusting the focus mode, enabling different features, and even making shortcuts.
This means it can do as much work as you want.
The body includes the new A17 Pro chip, which holds an important place in the market’s first 3nm chip and is a major development in the technology competition of semiconductor technology worldwide.
Comes with custom processors: Processing Cores that are 10% faster than the iPhone 15 Pro, Neural Engine that runs twice as fast as the iPhone 15 Pro, and a new six-core GPU that can run up to improved Performance 20% compared to the 15 Pro model at the rate.
It’s worth noting that this new chip includes AV1 resolution for better video playback and supports 4K60 video output from the USB-C port. According to our hands-on experience, the iPhone 15 Pro managed to play several games without any problems, which is promising. However, to see the full picture, we need to thoroughly evaluate the device with an official review.
A Closer Look, Camera Innovations and Connectivity Upgrades
The situation is similar when it comes to the cameras: the hands-on area within the Steve Jobs Theater offers some of the best lighting conditions for demonstrations, so the new cameras appeared impressive.
Naturally, the sample photos preloaded on the demonstration phones were truly stunning. The new primary camera provides the flexibility to switch between 24, 28, and 35mm focal lengths, while the Pro Max model features a novel 5x tetraprism zoom lens with a 120mm focal length, making it a delightful feature to experiment with.
By default, the primary camera captures images at 24 megapixels, but now you have the option to shoot in both 48-megapixel ProRaw and 48-megapixel HEIF formats, which Apple humorously refers to as “heef.” This revelation is indeed quite surprising.
In the realm of photography, the standout enhancement that will quickly catch the attention of most users is the revamped Portrait Mode. It now intelligently captures depth data when it identifies a person, cat, or dog in the frame, granting you the ability to convert photos into portrait mode even after the shot has been taken.
Additionally, you can fine-tune the focal point post-capture, a truly remarkable feature that consumers have been eagerly awaiting for a decade. We’ll need to assess how well these functions perform in real-world scenarios, but within Apple’s controlled environment, everything appeared to function seamlessly.
The 15 Pro has incorporated Wi-Fi 6E to deliver swiffer wireless connectivity. Moreover, it includes built-in Thread radios, the specific purpose of which remains somewhat uncertain, even to Apple at this point.
Additionally, there’s the latest second-generation UWB chip, which facilitates precise locating through the Find My feature when your friends possess devices equipped with this new chip. Notable examples include the new Apple Watch or iPhone 15.
Enhanced Satellite Connectivity
Finally, satellite communications were expanded to include navigation services in partnership with AAA. Apple’s website states that the navigation service is free for the first two years, but the actual service may be charged separately or may require AAA membership. We will go into details as part of our review.
Clearly there is a lot to discover in this review! Please let us know the specific information you would like us to investigate; We will try to continue researching.
In our experience with the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, we saw significant improvements in design, performance and camera features. Additional features include a titanium frame, USB-C port, and customizable buttons.
While the A17 Pro chip promises improved performance, there are also camera improvements such as portrait mode. Upgraded connectivity and a satellite partnership with AAA add to the appeal. We dive into our entire review to provide more insight.
