Apple is reportedly cutting more than 200 positions across several teams, including those responsible for its Vision Pro headset and Siri, as the company reshapes its workforce around artificial intelligence and upcoming devices.
According to Bloomberg, around 100 of the eliminated positions are coming from the team behind the Vision Pro, Apple’s long-troubled mixed-reality headset. Another roughly 100 positions are being cut from the Siri team and the Intelligent Systems Experience group, which focuses on integrating AI capabilities into Apple’s devices.
Sources told Bloomberg that the changes are part of a broader restructuring aimed at shifting resources toward Apple’s newer artificial intelligence initiatives and future hardware products.
Apple confirmed the layoffs to Bloomberg, saying it was “looking to evolve our business to deliver the best experiences for our users.” The company added that while the restructuring would create some new positions, it would also affect a limited number of existing roles.
The cuts come as Apple navigates a challenging period of transition. The company is working to strengthen its position in AI while simultaneously dealing with rising production costs caused in part by a global memory shortage linked to the rapid expansion of AI infrastructure.
Apple increased prices for Macs and iPads earlier this summer, while it recently introduced a leasing program covering its major hardware products in an effort to attract more customers and offset higher costs.
The company is also engaged in a legal battle with OpenAI, accusing the AI company of stealing trade secrets.
