The BAFTA Games Awards 2023 ceremony held on Thursday in London saw Sony’s game God of War Ragnorok lead the awards with six wins. The sequel to the 2019 Game of the Year, God of War Ragnorok, based on Norse mythology, won the prestigious Game of the Year award, which is the only award voted for by the public.
The game had received a record-breaking 14 nominations. Along with Game of the Year, the game also won performance honors for Christopher Judge and Laya DeLeon Hayes. The ceremony was held in London’s Queen Elizabeth Hall and was livestreamed on Twitch. The event was hosted by Julia Hardy and Inel Tomlinson.
Indie shooter Vampire Survivors, a game largely developed by Luca Galante, surprisingly won the top Best Game prize at the 2023 BAFTA Games Awards ceremony held in London’s Queen Elizabeth Hall. The event, hosted by Julia Hardy and Inel Tomlinson, was live-streamed on Twitch.
On the other hand, God of War Ragnorok won six awards, including Game of the Year, Performance Honors for Christopher Judge and Laya DeLeon Hayes, after receiving 14 nominations. The sequel to the 2019’s God of War won the same award as well.
Elden Ring, Tunic, and Vampire Survivors won two BAFTAs each, while Final Fantasy XIV Online, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Endling – Extinction Is Forever, Immortality, and Horizon Forbidden West were also honored at the event. Annapurna’s Stray, which features a stray cat trying to escape from a walled city, failed to receive any of its eight nominations.
In addition to the main awards, the BAFTA Fellowship was presented to Japanese gaming executive Shuhei Yoshida. Yoshida is a critical original member of Sony’s PlayStation brand and has been with the company since 1993.
