Denver’s Office of Climate Action, Sustainability, and Resiliency’s e-bike rebate program has been a hit, with over 5,000 rebate recipients buying e-bikes since it started last year. The program, which offers rebates ranging from $300 to $1,400, has proven to be so popular that the most recent round of rebates was claimed in under five minutes.
Chelsea Warren, a communication specialist with the program, said that the demand for e-bikes through the rebate program has far exceeded expectations. The program aims to replace vehicle miles, and the city estimates that e-bikes purchased through the program are replacing about 100,000 vehicle miles a week.
The rebate program is funded through 2024, but Warren said it could continue longer if it remains popular. Another round of rebates is set to open in May. One of the rebate recipients, Hannah Seiben, said the program helped her buy an electric cargo bike for about $67, and that she has put over 250 miles on it so far for city driving she would have been in her car otherwise.
