Elon Musk wants to start a university in Austin, Texas. A report from Bloomberg says that tax filing for Musk’s charity, The Foundation, shows he plans to give $100 million to create science and technology-focused elementary and high schools. After that, he aims to establish a university focused on top-notch education.
Elon Musk’s Education Projects
The Foundation submitted the application for tax exemption to the Internal Revenue Service in October 2022, and as reported by Bloomberg, it got approved in March of this year. According to the application, the university plans to provide education by knowledgeable teachers in areas such as math, science, engineering, and physics.
The learning experience will include practical activities like simulations, case studies, design projects, and labs. Additionally, the school aims to get accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
The application provides information about the upcoming K-12 schools too. These schools will concentrate on teaching STEM subjects and other topics. The first group of students is anticipated to be about 50, with the intention of increasing enrollment gradually.
Musk has been involved in education before. Back in 2014, he established a school named Ad Astra for his five children and a few other students. However, Musk, along with the school’s co-founders, later shut down Ad Astra and launched Astra Nova in 2020. Astra Nova is an online-only school that had approximately 50 full-time students as of last year.
