Over the course of its existence spanning four decades, the G-Shock has established itself as one of the most easily recognizable brands in the watch industry, and rightfully so. Casio‘s G-Shock boasts a sturdy foundation and a versatile design, embodying durability while also adapting to evolving aesthetic trends, all the while remaining affordable. As the G-Shock commemorates its 40th anniversary, the brand is launching a trio of models that pay tribute to its original design, marking the beginning of the celebratory events. The DW5040PG-1, GMWB 5000PS-1, and GMWB 5000 PG-9 models encapsulate the enduring toughness of G-Shock while incorporating a contemporary flair into the timeless design.
The initial model in the trio is referred to as the ref. DW5040PG-1, affectionately known as the “Tough” model by the brand’s Project Team. It pays direct homage to the original G-Shock ref. DW5000C, featuring the iconic case silhouette that has come to be synonymous with the brand, characterized by a pseudo-rectangular bezel and an integrated strap. In terms of materials, the brand incorporates recrystallized stainless steel for the caseback, a black IP and recrystallized stainless steel buckle, and a band loop adorned with a gold-colored IP. The bezel, sporting a black color, is crafted from a bio-based resin, highlighting the brand’s commitment to reducing its environmental impact in contemporary times. The caseback of the ref. DW5040PG-1 bears the engraved 40th anniversary logo, while four stars on the band loop serve as a tribute to the four decades of G-Shock’s legacy.
Remaining true to the G-Shock tradition, the ref. DW5040PG-1 exemplifies its shock resistance and boasts a water resistance of up to 200 meters. Its notable features encompass a daily alarm, a 1/100 stopwatch (24 Hr), a countdown timer (24 Hr), a multi-function alarm, an EL backlight, and a flash alert.
The retail price set for the G-Shock ref. DW5040PG-1, known as the Project Team “Tough” model, is $300.

Completing the trio are two GMWB5000 models that feature a groundbreaking application of deep-layer hardening and recrystallization technologies to the G-Shock line. This innovative process involves the infusion of carbon into the surface of the steel, resulting in enhanced durability and resistance to abrasion. As a result, not only do these watches possess superior surface strength, but they also exhibit distinct visual variations in the crystalline grain of the material.
Both models showcase a DLC coated screw-lock case back, meticulously engraved with the 40th-anniversary logo. The ref. GMWB5000PS-1 boasts a striking bright silver-tone exterior, while the ref. GMWB5000PG-9 flaunts an alluring warm yellow bronze color scheme in its packaging.
Adhering to the renowned G-Shock standards, the GMWB5000 models deliver exceptional shock resistance and maintain water resistance of up to 200 meters. These models offer an extensive range of features, including world time functionality encompassing 38 time zones, a precise 1/100 Stopwatch capable of measuring up to 24 hours, a versatile countdown timer (24 Hr), multi-function alarms, a display that seamlessly switches between date and month, and a day-of-week display presented in multiple languages.
