Google on Wednesday announced a range of gaming-focused updates to Google Play at GDC 2026. The company revealed that Google Play is expanding its catalog to include upcoming paid titles and PC indie games, introducing game trials, launching a “buy once, play anywhere” pricing model, adding a wishlist feature, and rolling out community posts.
The updates suggest that Google is working to transform Google Play into a more advanced gaming hub where players can test games before purchasing them, play across both mobile and PC, synchronize their progress, and interact with the gaming community within a single platform.
Google said it will expand its game library over the coming months by adding more paid titles, including Moonlight Peaks, Sledding Game, 9 Kings, Potion Craft, and Low-Budget Repairs. These games will be playable on both mobile devices and PC through Google Play Games, with Gamer Profiles enabling progress to sync across different devices.
To help users decide whether to purchase a title, Google is introducing game trials. Players will be able to try selected games before buying them and, if they decide to purchase, continue from the exact point where they stopped during the trial. Google said game trials will soon roll out for certain paid mobile games and will later expand to Google Play Games on PC.
In addition, Google Play’s new “Buy once, play anywhere” pricing model will allow users to access both the mobile and PC versions of a game with a single purchase. The feature is launching with select paid titles, including the Reigns series, OTTTD, and Dungeon Clawler.
For users who prefer playing on PC, Google is also adding a new PC section within the Games tab of the Play Store, which will serve as a dedicated hub for titles optimized for Windows PCs. If users find a game they are interested in, they can add it to a wishlist and receive notifications when it becomes available at a discounted price.
The company is also introducing community posts that will allow players to ask and answer questions related to games directly within Google Play. With this feature, Google hopes players will begin discussing games within its app store rather than relying on external platforms such as Reddit.
Community Posts is currently available in English for a selection of popular games, with support for more languages and additional titles expected to roll out soon.
Google also said it is bringing Play Games Sidekick, its AI-powered in-game overlay announced last year that provides real-time gaming assistance through Gemini Live, to selected paid games.
Wednesday’s announcement comes six months after Google introduced a redesigned Play Games experience featuring a new Games tab that centralizes statistics, achievement tracking, rewards, and community interactions in one place. The company also launched Play Games Leagues, which allow users to challenge friends and compete for Play Points rewards.
The redesigned Play Games experience was introduced alongside an updated Apps tab, a new section highlighting users’ interests, and Gemini-powered tools, including a “Guided Search” feature that enables users to find the app or game they want by typing a goal or idea instead of the app’s exact name.
