Google recently shared that its Bard AI chatbot has new capabilities. Now, Bard can respond to questions specifically about YouTube videos. Even though Bard could already analyze YouTube videos with the YouTube Extension introduced in September, it can now provide detailed answers to queries related to the video’s content.
The company mentioned in an update on Bard’s page, “We’re taking the first steps in Bard’s ability to understand YouTube videos,” the company wrote on Bard’s updates page. “For example, if you’re looking for videos on how to make olive oil cake, you can now also ask how many eggs the recipe in the first video requires. We’ve heard you want deeper engagement with YouTube videos. So we’re expanding the YouTube Extension to understand some video content so you can have a richer conversation with Bard about it.”
Enhancements to YouTube Extension for Bard
Before this latest update, the YouTube Extension for Bard had a limited function. It could only help you locate specific videos. For example, you could request the chatbot to find amusing videos. However, with the latest update, you can now ask the chatbot detailed questions about the content of videos. Suppose you’re watching a travel video and spot a place you’re interested in, you can inquire with Bard about the location.
This announcement comes two weeks after YouTube began experimenting with new generative AI features. These features include an AI conversational tool that answers questions about YouTube content and a new function that summarizes topics found in video comments.
How to Use New Feature
The responses from the conversational tool are generated by large language models that use information from YouTube and the web. Users can inquire about the video they are currently watching, and the AI responds while the video is playing. The comments summarizer tool uses generative AI to organize discussions in comment sections, providing users with a summary of what people are talking about.
This update coincides with Google expanding access to Bard for teenagers in most countries worldwide. In a blog post, the search giant mentioned that teens can utilize the tool to “find inspiration, discover new hobbies, and solve everyday problems.” Teens can ask Bard about important matters, such as which universities to apply to, or more lighthearted topics, like how to learn a new sport.
Google’s Bard AI chatbot has been enhanced to answer specific questions about YouTube videos, allowing users to engage more deeply with content. The company aims to broaden Bard’s understanding of video content, enabling richer conversations. This update aligns with Google’s initiative to make Bard accessible to teenagers globally, offering a tool for inspiration, hobbies, and problem-solving.
