Lady Gaga is currently promoting two singles that couldn’t be more different from each other. The first, “Die with a Smile,” her retro-inspired collaboration with Bruno Mars, was released unexpectedly months ago and has since become one of 2024’s biggest hits. Following that, she dropped her solo track “Disease,” which marks a return to the dance-pop sound that originally made her famous. While “Disease” has been a somewhat underwhelming lead single for her upcoming album, “Die with a Smile” has propelled her to new heights in her career.

“Die with a Smile” climbs to No. 1 on the Adult Pop Airplay chart this week, marking a significant milestone for Lady Gaga. As the song jumps several spots to claim the top position, it becomes her first-ever leader on this Billboard radio chart, which highlights the more sophisticated side of the pop genre.
Despite being one of the most prolific hitmakers of the last two decades, Gaga had never secured a No. 1 spot on the Adult Pop Airplay chart—until now. While she has come close in the past, she’s never quite managed to take the lead.
“Die with a Smile” is one of Gaga’s dozen top 10 hits on the Adult Pop Airplay chart. In the past, she has peaked at No. 2 multiple times but never managed to go beyond that—until now.
Gaga reached the No. 2 spot on the Adult Pop Airplay chart with “Shallow” featuring Bradley Cooper, from their A Star Is Born remake, as well as her solo hit “The Edge of Glory.” Additionally, two other tracks, “Rain on Me” with Ariana Grande and the unexpected hit “Bloody Mary,” peaked at No. 3.
Mars is undoubtedly celebrating another No. 1 hit, though it’s far from his first. The singer has now amassed four chart-toppers on the Adult Pop Airplay ranking, with his streak of successes beginning nearly 15 years ago.
The pop superstar first reached the summit of the Adult Pop Airplay chart in 2010 with his breakout hit “Just the Way You Are.” He later returned to the top with “When I Was Your Man,” “Uptown Funk” with Mark Ronson, and now his duet with Gaga. In total, Mars has landed an impressive 13 songs in the chart’s top 10.
Gaga and Mars have claimed the top spot on the Adult Pop Airplay chart, dethroning another of today’s biggest pop stars. Billie Eilish’s “Birds of a Feather,” which held the No. 1 position last week, has now slipped to No. 3.
