Meta’s experimental gaming app Pocket, which lets users create games through AI-powered vibe coding, is now rolling out to everyone in the U.S. The app, which quietly launched last month in Brazil as its initial test market, allows people to generate small, interactive games through AI prompts and publish them to a scrollable feed.
The app is based on Meta’s acqui-hire of the team behind vibe-coded gaming platform Gizmo earlier this year. The interactive experiences and games — which Meta calls “gizmos” — respond to touch and phone movements, produce sound effects, and can even incorporate clips from users’ favorite songs.
Gizmos can also incorporate photos from a user’s camera roll or make use of the phone’s camera. Once created, the games can be posted to a user’s profile, where other people can save them, remix them into new creations, or simply repost them.
Pocket is the latest example of Meta’s broader effort to bring AI-powered creation tools to mainstream users. The company has previously experimented with AI-generated images through its Meta AI app and AI-generated videos through its standalone Vibes app.
Pocket now joins several other standalone mobile apps Meta has launched or tested in recent months. CEO Mark Zuckerberg has attributed the company’s faster pace of experimentation to AI-assisted software development, which allows Meta to develop, test, and release new ideas more quickly.
“Earlier this year, we shipped Instagram Instants. We also just launched Forum, a stand-alone Groups app, and Seller, a stand-alone Marketplace app. I expect it to become a lot easier to ship new apps,” Zuckerberg told analysts during Meta’s July earnings call. “So we are planning to build out more ideas and use our recommendation systems to scale them.”
Alongside Instants, Forum, and the Seller app, Meta has also launched an experiment focused on AI-generated bedtime stories and, this week, introduced a Meta AI app for Mac.
With Pocket’s wider launch, Meta is also shutting down the original Gizmo app it acquired from Atma Sciences.
