Deep Search takes advantage of Bing’s current web index and ranking system, which is now enhanced by GPT-4. This improvement turns a user’s query into a detailed description, capturing their intent more accurately. The technology is especially skilled at clarifying queries with multiple possible meanings.
For example, if you ask a vague question like “how do points systems work in Japan,” Bing will turn it into a detailed prompt. It will ask Bing to:
“Explain how different loyalty card programs work in Japan, including their benefits, requirements, and limitations. Give examples of popular loyalty cards from various categories like convenience stores, supermarkets, and restaurants. Compare the pros and cons of using loyalty cards versus other payment methods in Japan, including current rewards and benefits. Highlight the most popular services and stores that participate in these loyalty card programs.”
Bing’s Advanced Deep Search Feature
Bing might also broaden its search to include details about immigration policies and public transportation fares. This expansion is part of GPT-4’s effort to cover all possible meanings of a query.
The topics suggested by Bing will be shown in a panel on the search results page. From there, you can pick the one that best fits your needs. Deep Search will then organize the results based on how closely they match the comprehensive description. Microsoft mentions that performing a Deep Search might take up to 30 seconds. If you prefer a quicker search, you can always stick to Bing’s regular search feature.
Microsoft introduced Deep Search as they announced Copilot‘s compatibility with OpenAI’s GPT-Turbo model. Although Deep Search is in the experimental stage and is currently accessible to a limited number of users, I’m excited to give it a try. Crafting a prompt for AI can sometimes be a task on its own, undermining the efficiency and productivity it’s meant to bring.

The key update involves incorporating GPT-4 Turbo into Copilot, providing improved abilities to manage intricate and lengthy tasks.
Currently undergoing testing with a select group of users, GPT-4 Turbo is set to be accessible to a broader audience in Copilot soon.
