The team behind Crossing Minds, a startup specializing in AI-powered recommendation systems for e-commerce, is joining OpenAI, the companies announced Thursday.
Backed by notable investors including Index Ventures, Shopify, Plug and Play, and Radical Ventures, Crossing Minds raised over $13.5 million across multiple funding rounds, according to Crunchbase.

The startup focused on helping e-commerce platforms deliver more personalized shopping experiences. Its technology analyzed users’ on-site behavior to tailor recommendations — all while prioritizing user privacy.
“Joining OpenAI allows us to bring our work — and our values — into a mission we deeply respect: to ensure artificial general intelligence benefits all of humanity,” the company’s co-founders wrote in a statement on its website. “We’re thrilled to bring our experience and energy to a team that’s setting the direction for the future of AI. We’re excited to learn, to contribute, and to help shape what’s next.”
Co-founder Alexandre Robicquet has already updated his LinkedIn bio to reflect his new role at OpenAI, where he now works in Research, Post-training, and Agents. It remains unclear whether the entire Crossing Minds team has transitioned to OpenAI.
Crossing Minds also announced that it will no longer accept new clients. According to an archived version of its “About” page, the company had previously served clients including Intuit, Anthropic, Udacity, and Chanel.
The move comes amid a broader industry push to integrate AI into shopping experiences. Tech giants like Google and Perplexity have introduced AI-driven recommendation tools, while startups such as Daydream have secured substantial funding to develop AI shopping assistants.
Earlier this year, OpenAI enhanced ChatGPT with the ability to provide personalized recommendations, images, and product reviews — a direction now likely to be bolstered by the Crossing Minds team.
