OpenAI said on Friday that it will start testing advertisements in ChatGPT’s Free and Go tiers for users in the United States over the coming weeks, while also expanding its lower-cost ChatGPT Go subscription to markets around the world.
The Microsoft-backed AI company explained that ads will be displayed at the bottom of ChatGPT responses when a sponsored product or service is relevant to the user’s prompt. OpenAI stressed that advertisements will be clearly labeled and kept separate from the model’s organic answers.
Alongside the ad test, OpenAI announced that ChatGPT Go is now launching globally, becoming available everywhere ChatGPT operates. In the U.S., the Go plan is priced at $8 per month, with localized pricing offered in some regions.
ChatGPT Go was first introduced in India in August 2025 and later expanded to 170 additional countries. OpenAI said the plan has quickly become its fastest-growing subscription tier and ranks among the most affordable AI services available worldwide.
With the global rollout of Go, ChatGPT now offers three paid subscription tiers globally:
- ChatGPT Go at $8 per month
- ChatGPT Plus at $20 per month
- ChatGPT Pro at $200 per month
The Go tier gives users 10 times more messages, file uploads, and image generation compared with the free version, along with longer memory and expanded context windows. Subscribers also gain access to GPT-5.2 Instant.
ChatGPT Plus provides broader access to more advanced AI models, including GPT-5.2 Thinking, while ChatGPT Pro delivers full access to GPT-5.2 Pro, featuring the highest memory limits and largest context windows.
OpenAI said the introduction of ads is intended to support its goal of keeping AI tools widely accessible by helping sustain free and low-cost plans. The company confirmed that ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise subscriptions will remain completely ad-free.
