News about what’s happening within OpenAI might be making headlines, but according to the PR team, the AI startup and its associated accelerator programs are continuing without any interruptions.
The OpenAI Startup Fund, which is a separate entity (despite the confusing name, it’s not invested in by OpenAI), has just introduced Converge-2. This is the second group of participants in their six-week Converge program, designed for outstanding engineers, designers, researchers, and product builders who use AI to rethink and reshape the world. This was mentioned in a blog post released earlier today.
OpenAI Startup Fund’s Converge-2 Program
Similar to the startups in the initial Converge group from the OpenAI Startup Fund, the 10-15 selected for Converge-2 will be granted a $1 million equity investment from the fund. This fund, exceeding $100 million, was introduced last May and is supported by Microsoft and other partners of the OpenAI Startup Fund. If you calculate it, that amounts to a minimum investment of $10 million in the Converge-2 program, which is a significant amount of money.

Aside from the financial support, those involved in Converge-2 will have the opportunity to attend technical discussions, engage in one-on-one sessions, join social gatherings, and have conversations with prominent experts and the OpenAI Startup Fund’s community of creators, as outlined in the blog post.
Notably, participants are not required to develop using OpenAI’s APIs; the OpenAI Startup Fund emphasizes that the program is open to anyone who is building or aims to build with AI. However, it’s anticipated that the positive impacts of the network will make OpenAI’s technologies highly appealing.
Application Details
The OpenAI Startup Fund is urging founders from diverse backgrounds, fields, and experience levels, even those located outside the U.S., to submit applications. Previous experience with AI systems is not mandatory.
However, selected startups must commit a minimum of four to six hours per week to the program, scheduled from March 11 to April 19. The initial and final weeks of the program will be held in San Francisco, and the OpenAI Startup Fund will cover travel expenses.
The application deadline is January 26.
Summary
OpenAI stays focused on innovation despite the buzz. Their Converge-2 program, backed by the Startup Fund, offers significant support beyond money, learning, networking, and collaboration opportunities. Founders globally are invited to apply, promising a valuable experience. The deadline is January 26.
