Less than a day before Rockstar was set to debut GTA VI’s first trailer, a now-suspended account posted the trailer on X (formerly Twitter).
The company had initially planned to reveal the preview the next day at 6 a.m. ET on Tuesday, December 5th. However, due to a leak, they had to release it earlier.
Grand Theft Auto VI Leak
The leak originated from the @Gta6trailerleak account on X (formerly Twitter). Subsequently, Rockstar Games, a part of Take-Two, posted the trailer on YouTube. As a result, X suspended the account responsible for the leaked video.
The release of Grand Theft Auto VI is expected to have a significant impact on Take Two’s revenue growth. The previous installment, Grand Theft Auto V, was launched in 2013 and has become the second best-selling video game ever, selling over 190 million copies. It’s only surpassed by Microsoft-owned Minecraft, which has sold over 300 million copies.
There has been anticipation among gamers for details about the new game for several years. In early November, Sam Houser, the founder of Rockstar Games, announced that the trailer would be released in December.
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick acknowledged Rockstar Games’ continuous innovation in the pursuit of high-quality interactive entertainment during a November conference call, especially as the label approaches its 25th anniversary next month.

Platforms for the GTA VI and Leaked Information
The upcoming game is set to be available on Sony PlayStation 5 and Microsoft Xbox Series X and Series S consoles, according to a statement from Take-Two.
The unveiling of GTA VI has been surrounded by leaked information. Earlier this year, a UK teenager was identified as the one behind last year’s leak, which shared 90 videos from the game’s development process.
Moreover, this week, a video on TikTok emerged, purportedly containing leaked footage from the game, claimed to be sourced from the child of a Rockstar employee. The TikTok videos, still accessible at the time of this statement, display footage of a computer monitor showcasing expansive views of the game’s setting.

Conclusion
Take-Two’s stock dropped 4% due to leaked early footage of Grand Theft Auto VI. The game is expected to be a revenue boost, following the success of GTA V. Despite leaks, excitement surrounds the upcoming release, with CEO Strauss Zelnick’s commitment to innovation adding to the anticipation as the label approaches its 25th anniversary.
