Forbes has released its annual list of the world’s billionaires in 2024, there are more people on the list than ever.

There are now 141 extra billionaires compared to last year, making a total of 2,781. All their money together is worth $14.2 trillion, which is $2 trillion more than in 2023.

The list for 2024 set new records compared to 2021, with 26 additional billionaires included and their total net worth increasing by $1.1 trillion.

The billionaires have become even richer, with two-thirds of them increasing their wealth. Among the top 20 on the list, there was a significant gain of $700 billion in their combined wealth since 2023. Additionally, the United States now has a record-breaking 813 billionaires, the highest number for any country.

China boasts 473 billionaires, while India follows closely with 200, marking a record high for the latter country.

Forbes calculated their wealth by using stock prices and exchange rates as of March 8, 2024.

Bernard Arnault and his family hold the top position, boasting a net worth of $233 billion. Arnault leads LVMH, a prominent luxury fashion and cosmetics conglomerate based in France. Typically, the family consistently ranks within the top three on Forbes’ list of the world’s wealthiest individuals.

Elon Musk, formerly the wealthiest individual globally, currently holds the second position on the list with a net worth of $195 billion. Musk, renowned as the founder of Tesla and SpaceX, acquired Twitter for $44 million in 2022, subsequently renaming it X.

Forbes estimates that Musk owns approximately 74% of the social media company, which has seen its value plummet by nearly 70% from the purchase price. Coupled with factors such as lower Tesla earnings, these developments have caused Musk’s net worth to drop below $200 billion multiple times in the past two years.

At the third spot is Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, with a net worth of $195 billion. Following closely is Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Facebook, whose net worth stands at $177 billion.

• 137. Dallas Cowboys General Manager and President Jerry Jones, worth $13.9 billion
• 1,330. Jay-Z, worth $2.5 billion 
• 1,851. Kim Kardashian, worth $1.7 billion 
• 2,545. Taylor Swift, worth $1.1 billion

Ranking at No. 15 on the billionaires list is Francoise Bettencourt Meyers, the granddaughter of L’Oreal’s founder. As the wealthiest woman globally, her net worth amounts to $99.5 billion.

Following Bettencourt, the next four richest women are:

• Alice Walton, the daughter of Walmart founder Sam Walton, possesses a net worth of $72.3 billion.
• Julia Koch and her three children inherited a stake in Koch Industries from her late husband and are collectively valued at $64.3 billion.
• Jacqueline Mars, holding a one-third share in the candy and food company Mars, boasts a net worth of $38.5 billion.
• MacKenzie Scott, formerly married to Jeff Bezos, possesses a wealth totaling $35.6 billion.
